East Fremantle Resort Living

“Everything we want is here and it’s a home which we all enjoy.”

To describe this East Fremantle home as a significant renovation would be understating the extent to which this home was transformed from the original 1967 two bedroom shack to a striking modern residence boasting abundant living space, river views and a two tiered resort style pool to rival most six star boutique hotels.

The memories of moving into this derelict home some five years earlier are still fresh in the minds of owners Andrew and Michelle and their two teenage daughters Isabella and Eliza.

“I remember the day we moved in” said Michelle “our daughters begged us to send them to boarding school!”

“Downstairs was a completely unliveable space, and upstairs was dark and poky.  It’s hard to believe this home had remained unchanged for all those years; the internal walls still had the old polystyrene lining.”

The owners were not able to simply demolish the home, as Council planning guidelines would have prohibited them from rebuilding a two storey home, instead, a single structural wall was retained and an entirely new home built.

Andrew and Michelle sought the expert advice of Summit Home Improvements, stating from the outset they wanted a large front balcony which would maximise their Swan River views.  This, in effect, set the scene for the design of the home.

“We wanted a home which provided a separate sleeping and living area for our teenage daughters downstairs, while creating an open-plan dining and entrainment area which connected with the front and rear balconies” said Michelle.

It is evident on arrival this is a home which has been designed and built with meticulous attention to detail. A path of elevated steps leads you across a manicured tropical water feature and garden; setting the scene for what one might expect behind the custom made Maubu pivot front door.

There’s an immediate sense of space and light as you enter the home.  In line with their brief, Summit Home Improvements created an independent space for the two teenagers; three bedrooms, a bathroom and large living area which overlooks the resort-style pool means the girls have their own space to socialise with their friends.

Take the stairs up to the second floor and there’s an immediate sense that this is a space which has been designed with family, friends and plenty of entertaining in mind.  The 116 square metres of indoor living space seamlessly connects with both the front and rear balconies which are fully clad with floor to ceiling glass stacking doors.  A stylish large kitchen with Ice Caesarstone® benchtops, high gloss lacquered cabinetry and a generous walk-in pantry complement the modern, fresh design of the home.  River views are also enjoyed from the second floor master bedroom, complete with a walk in robe and ensuite.

“I love to cook and entertain” said Michelle.  “No matter where I stand in the kitchen I have uninterrupted views of the river or our pool – it makes it a beautiful place to be.”

It’s evident the home is the result of a collaboration between Andrew, Michelle and the team from Summit Home Improvement, including Angelo Tomassone their design consultant.

“Angelo understood immediately what we wanted, and not only turned our ideas into reality, but along the way made suggestions which enhanced the overall design and functionality of the home” said Michelle.

“After meeting with us, he prepared an initial design which was almost exactly what we had discussed.  This gave us a sense of peace that he had listened to us and actually understood what we wanted.”

After an 11 month construction period, in which the family temporarily moved out, their dream home was completed.

“These days we much prefer to stay home and entertain rather than go out” said Michelle.  “Everything we want is here and it’s a home which we all enjoy.”
