A desire for city and street views, as well as adding more living space, was the number one priority in the renovation of this family home in Swanbourne.
Owner Gail loved where she lived and didn’t want to move so she enlisted Summit Home Improvements to add a seamless second storey, which would enhance and compliment her existing abode while adding value.
The new level included a separate retreat, master bedroom with an ensuite and walk-in robe, as well as a balcony which capitalised on city views from the bedroom.
The positioning of the balcony within the front facade also allowed for vistas of the treetops lining the street.
Gail said she was impressed with her designer Jim, who she described as helpful and friendly.
“He was a great help with all the things we wanted to know,” she said.
“We could ring him anytime with anything we weren’t sure about. He was always there to help.”
The positioning of the staircase was one of the most important elements of the design.
It was built in an unused formal dining area where walls were removed, which also allowed the front entry and living area to be opened up to make the stairs a focal point, while allowing more light into the space.
The renovation was completed while Gail recuperated from knee surgery and she said the workers would take her laptop onto the roof to take photos to keep her across the progress.
“I could not have asked for a better end result,” she said.
“Thank you again from all of us – to all at Summit who have all worked so hard to make everything go so well for us,” she said.Go back
