1920’s Manor Style Home Revamped

Homeowners – particularly those of character homes – who are looking for inspiration on renovating ideas, will be impressed with this renovated 1920’s manor style home in Victoria Park.
The owners approached Summit Home Improvements with the request that their three bedroom cottage home be opened up and extended to the suit the family’s needs.
We set about revamping its living areas and applied a fresh, new feel that seamlessly showed how to best marry the traditional features with a contemporary design that best capitalised on its location, lot orientation and family’s circumstances.
It was an important design consideration to maintain the character feel of not only the home itself but also the heritage aspect that is so entrenched and celebrated in the suburb of Victoria Park.
Summit Home improvements delivered a design that met both requirements by keeping the elevation and two front bedrooms, but completely redesigning the rear of the existing ground floor, and adding a second storey as an indulgent parent’s retreat.
The rear of the home was opened up to include a light and bright open plan living and dining area, complete with galley style kitchen and access to a large covered alfresco.
Upstairs the parent’s retreat boasts the relocated master bedroom and ensuite as well as a second bedroom (for use as a nursery) as well as a sitting area, studio/entertainment area and balcony to take advantage of the views of Raphael Park.
The design took many weeks of consultation with the owners and also the Town of Victoria Park as the home is classified as one of Victoria Park’s ‘original homes’ as it falls under the ‘Character Study’ area, being in the Raphael Park precinct. Once approved, the construction was completed in about 12 months.
The owners are delighted with their new home so much so they want to share it with the wider public for a limited time.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand the intricacies and building possibilities for this type of home.
